Gljúfrasteinn

Gljúfrasteinn was the home of Halldór Laxness, Iceland’s Nobel Prize–winning author, and remains beautifully preserved to reflect his life and creative world. The house sits in a peaceful valley near Mosfellsbær. Visitors can explore the interior, filled with personal objects, books, and original furnishings. It’s a place of immense cultural significance, where much of Icelandic literary history was written.

Take the guided tour to fully appreciate the history of the house and the stories behind the objects within it. The audio guide is also excellent and available in several languages. Check the event schedule before you go, as the museum often hosts concerts and literary readings.
