Reykjadalur, which translates to “Steam Valley,” is a geothermal valley offering steam vents, bubbling mud pots, and a warm river for bathing. The landscape feels raw and volcanic, with geothermal activity visible along the trail. The warm river at the top is one of Iceland’s most unique natural bathing experiences. The entire area is a perfect mix of hiking, scenery, and geothermal wonders.
The hike takes 45–60 minutes depending on pace. Wear sturdy shoes, as some sections are steep or muddy. Bring swimwear and a towel for the bathing river. There are no changing facilities at the river, so be prepared to change outdoors. The further upstream you go, the hotter the water gets, so you can find a spot with the perfect temperature for you. Early morning visits are quieter and offer beautiful mist rising from the valley.
