Geothermal Bakery

Laugarvatn’s geothermal heat has traditionally been used for more than bathing. During the Geothermal Bakery experience, visitors see how Icelandic rye bread is buried in the hot ground beside Lake Laugarvatn and slowly baked using natural geothermal heat.

The tour includes a walk to the geothermal baking area, where freshly baked rye bread is dug from the hot sand. Guests can then taste the warm bread, traditionally served with Icelandic butter. The experience provides a simple but distinctive look at how geothermal energy has been used in everyday life around Laugarvatn.
