Geysir Geothermal Area

The Geysir Geothermal Area in Haukadalur Valley is one of Iceland’s best-known geothermal sites. The Great Geysir, which gave geysers around the world their name, is mostly inactive today, but nearby Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes, often sending boiling water 15–30 meters into the air. Steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and mineral-rich ground surround the geysers, making this one of the most active geothermal areas along the Golden Circle.
