Gullfoss, meaning “Golden Falls,” is one of Iceland’s most powerful and iconic waterfalls. Fed by the glacial river Hvítá, the water plunges 32 meters in two stages before disappearing into a dramatic canyon carved through layers of volcanic rock. Several viewpoints offer different perspectives of the falls, from the upper canyon to a path that brings you remarkably close to the rushing water.
