Tucked into a forest on quiet farmland near Selfoss, this transparent, heated Bubble Hotel in Ölvisholt is booked as a standalone overnight stay. It’s a place built around stillness: the trees close in around each bubble, and there’s nothing on the agenda but the night itself.
Inside, you’ll find a real double bed made up for two, kept warm no matter how cold it gets outside, under a 180° dome that leaves the sky overhead completely unobstructed.
This is a self-drive experience, and you make your own way to the property using the directions provided after booking. Ölvisholt sits within the Golden Circle area, so this stay works well for travelers who want to spend the day exploring Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss on the way in before settling in for the night. Itinerary
Drive yourself to the property in Ölvisholt using the directions provided after booking. There’s no reception desk here: a host meets you in person, and check-in runs between 17:00 and 20:00. We’ll agree on your exact arrival time with you by email beforehand, so keep a working phone with you on the day. Once you arrive, you’ll be shown to your own bubble, set apart from the others among the trees.
Settle into a real double bed, kept warm regardless of the weather outside, beneath a 180° dome that keeps the view completely open above you. From roughly September to April, clear nights can bring the aurora directly overhead, visible without leaving the bed, though as a natural phenomenon it’s never guaranteed. In summer, when the sky barely darkens, the midnight sun takes its place, and on a rainy night, the sound of it rolling across the dome is its own kind of show. A toilet sits a short stroll away in the forest, roughly 30–50 metres from your bubble, with a service house (toilet and shower) close by too. There’s no food sold on site, so plan to eat beforehand or bring your own.
Check-out is before 10:00 the following morning. From Ölvisholt, you’re free to continue on to wherever your trip takes you next.
